What makes Sexology Institute's sex coach training unique?

This program is designed to stretch you in the best possible ways, combining academic assignments, guided personal exploration, clinical experiences, and business training so you can become a confident, skilled, and well-rounded coach.  We do not assume a single “right” way to experience or learn about sexuality, relationships, or identity. Students are encouraged to question norms, reflect on their own positionality, and engage ethically with difference—both in themselves and in others—as they plan and grow their coaching practice.

How long does the training take to complete?

The program includes 300+ hours of education and experience and can be completed in 6 to 18 months at your own pace. Most students dedicate 5-10hrs/week to the program and finish within 12 months. Extensions are available if needed.

Will I be asked to do anything that I'm uncomfortable with?

Accepted Answer

You’ll never be forced to do anything that crosses your boundaries. That said, we do encourage you to explore your edge. Some assignments are designed to help you grow through self-inquiry, body awareness, or communication challenges. You’re always encouraged to speak up, modify assignments as needed, and move at your own pace. We believe consent-based growth is the most powerful kind.

Does the program require any in-person experiences?

The entire program can be completed remotely—including your practicum, group calls, and final presentation. Some assignments involve field trips to local-to-you venues (such as adult stores or events), but you’ll choose what makes sense for your location and comfort level.

Is the program nationally recognized?

Yes, our training program is accredited by the American College of Sexologists and recognized by the American Board of Sexology. Our certification is highly respected in the field of sexology and coaching. Specific recognition may vary by organization, so we recommend checking with them directly if that’s important to you. We are proud to maintain high standards of excellence.

What credentials will I have after graduating?

Accepted Answer

You’ll be certified as a Sex Coach and Sex Educator, and will be eligible to register as a Board-Certified Sexologist with the American Board of Sexology. You’ll receive an official certificate (signed and sealed) and will be eligible to use the post-nominal designation “SXI” after your name—for example: Jane Smith, SXI.

Can I use this credential in my therapy practice?

Yes, assuming you adhere to the stipulations laid out by your licensing board. Many of our faculty and alumni are licensed therapists who utilize clinical sexology to support their clients, while others have separate sex coaching practices. Our program can help you choose an approach that's right for you.

Rates vary widely depending on your niche, experience, and business model. New coaches often charge between $150 and $500 per session, though some SXI graduates charge up to $1,000/hour for specialized coaching packages.

Right now, we don’t offer financial aid or scholarships. Instead, we keep tuition as accessible as possible and offer flexible payment plan options to make enrollment easier for you.

Enrollment is open for three cohorts each year, which start in January, May, and September. Applications are reviewed year-round, and students are accepted based on space and fit. Apply when you’re ready for the next cohort—we’re excited to learn more about you.
